How Can We Help?

Importing multiple media assets (web interface workflow)

Notes:

  • This workflow is primarily used by Mukurtu Administrators.
  • Media assets that are directly uploaded can be mass imported.
    • This includes uploaded audio, images, files, and uploaded video.
  • Externally hosted media assets cannot be mass imported through this workflow.
    • This includes Soundcloud audio, Youtube videos, Vimeo videos, and DailyMotion videos.
  • Multiple media assets of the same media type can be imported at the same time.
    • This can include different file formats.
    • Eg: one import could include JPG and PNG image files.
    • Eg: one import could not include MP3 audio files and PDF files – these would need to be run as separate imports.
  • Media-level metadata can be entered file-by-file with this workflow, but for a large volume of media assets this may be a substantial amount of work.
    • See Media asset metadata for more information.
    • This workflow works best with media assets that do not need to use media asset metadata. Consider using the ZIP archive workflow if this is needed.
    • If additional media asset metadata is required, and the ZIP archive workflow is not used, media assets can be updated with it after import. See Updating existing media asset metadata workflow for more information.
  • See Mukurtu CMS access copy sizes, resolutions, and file formats for more information.

From the dashboard, click “Add Media”.

Select the media type you will be importing. This article shows how to work with images, but the workflow is the same for all uploaded media assets – the only difference is some format-specific metadata fields.

Click “+ Add files” to locate and select files on your computer, or drag and drop from an open file explorer/finder window into the files box.

Once all your desired files are selected, click “Continue”.

Now you have the opportunity to add any necessary media asset metadata.

Once all required metadata has been added, or if none is needed, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Finish”.

A confirmation message will be displayed.

To view your recently imported media assets, from the Dashboard, click “View Media”.

All media assets are listed with the most recently imported first.
